I though I would post all the street shots I took on holiday at Whitby. These were all taken on my Olympus 35rc rangefinder camera, on hp5+ at 400 or pushed to 800 developed in rodinal.

Next up will be some pictures from a shoot I did in Newcastle yesterday.

Well hopefully not. I thought I would add a tumblr account. It seems to be quite easy to add pictures from flickr so I will use it for so, I wont be adding any words, that’s what this site is for!

http://jordensayer.tumblr.com/

I will also be adding some old images from time to time for people to check out, so it would be worth subscribing for that!

Also I started a Facebook, not sure how useful this will be but it will allow tumblr posts to show up dead easy. And hopefully I will get lots of likes to make me think I am popular!

I have a feeling that my photography has lacked direction for a while, I felt very inspired today, I was looking through my Francesca Woodman book, her images are so beautiful. I decided to debark on my own set of self portraits, I shot a roll of fp4+and pushed it to 200.(processed in Rodinal 1+50 for 20 minutes) Despite this because I was shooting in my very dark house long exposures were needed. Ideas have been flowing through my head for a couple of nights now. Anyway these ideas will develop and I will shoot more self portraits.

I used a Yashica Mat 124G basically because it is my only camera with a self timer, and I did use some lighting from an old cheapo modeling tungsten light.

Here they are the first one I envisioned with candles all around so will perhaps work on this more

The second I will explore more perhaps with a series of pictures that deal with fire and the body. I watched a program last night that showed colour film footage from the 1930’s in Mexico, it was a really interesting show. There was one scene where a woman basically cooked/burned a lizard alive. This picture I believe is partly inspired by that image, it was quite disturbing to me.

There is no camera trickery digital or otherwise going on here, its real fire on my face. (BUT DON’T WORRY I AM FINE!)

I have also been inspired by the work of Leanne Surfleet

She makes the most beautiful self portraits, I basically spent today looking through her images. Imo she is up there with some of the best!

It was really nice to be working with lovely big square format on the negatives, when they were hanging up in my high tech drying area(my shower) It brought a smile to my face and I couldn’t wait to scan them!

Anyway more to come I think.

Some more,

this one was another from the Spa

And this one is the last picture I took on the Olympus 35rc. Emma and I scarred our bodies up before we left Whitby and although the 35rc’s light meter told me it was too dark I went with instinct and set the camera to f2.8 and 1/30th of a second and bang! turns out it wasn’t too dark after all silly light meter!

That’s all for now!

Hi folks, these next two are my attempt at street photography. I do enjoy it but I find if you are not doing it all the time, it really  shows. There is a big confidence needed for effective street shots shots.

The first one is from the last roll I took a good few weeks ago in Newcastle on the millennium bridge

When I saw the shot, I got a rush of excitement, pulled the camera out of my bag (olympus 35rc) set it up and snapped two shots as I passed. the first was too far away(confidence) the second was much better I did have to crop slightly. But I am pleased with this one seeing as I hadn’t really shot any street stuff in a long time.

The second is from our holiday. This was our day trip from Whitby to Scarborough shot at  the spa
This is a gorgeous location, there was a bbc organist playing beach tunes(and abba) and the place was full of pensioners sitting on deck chairs asleep. We didn’t pay the 3 pound to get in but instead climbed the steps and listened for free above. while we sat I noticed this guy asleep I really wanted the picture but his wife was sat very close to him wide awake. I tried some sneaky shots from affair but it wasn’t right. I needed to be close, but had to wait until we were leaving so I could get take it when I walked past. Anyway I got it but had to straighten the picture some. This was shot on hp5 in the 35rc on a very sunny day. I zone focused the camera to about 1.5 meters and shot from the hip. I am very pleased with it.

Developed in rodinal at 1+100 for 16 minutes(I am running out of developer and have no money for new so I am being very frugal)

More to come from our holiday!

It’s been a little while, me and the missus have just had a holiday in Whitby and I was computer less.

It seems so long ago but here are a few from our day in Jesmond Dene. I am no Ansel Adams but I do occasionally take some landscapes.  However I often find my own lanscape work a bit boring so it is really something I need to either work harder on or just give up!

I have a about 8 rolls of film from Whitby to get through hopefully it’s not all toss.
